Cuba takes fifth place in Pan American Games

 

   

TORONTO, Canada, July 24, 2015 – Cuba overcame United States 3-1 (28-30, 25-22, 25-14, 25-22) in the match for fifth place at the men’s volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games at Toronto Exhibition Center on Friday afternoon.

 

Rolando Cepeda was the top offensive weapon for Cuba with 24 points, including four blocks, followed by Javier Jimenez with 18 points and Livan Osoria who finished with 11 in the victory.

 

Zachary La Cavera had 22 points as the best scorer for USA while Brian Cook was next with 17 points in the losing effort.

 

Cuba team had a tournament-high 18 blocks to 9 by USA with Luis Tomas Sosa contributing to the total with five blocks of his own.

 

USA led in spikes 54-48 and aces 5-4 but committed 33 unforced errors, that is 13 more than the 20 made by Cuba.
