Cuba wins its first gold in the NORCECA Tour

 

Managua, Nicaragua. May 5, 2019. - Sergio González and Luis Reyes, from Cuba, were awarded with the gold medal of the third stop of the NORCECA Men's Beach Volleyball Tour, when they won the final against Andy Leonardo and Luis García, from Guatemala, with a score of 2-0. (21-9, 21-15).

 

With this victory, González/Reyes complete a color palette with the medals obtained in the Tour, since they have a bronze, a silver and now a golden medal.

 

In the semifinal, the Cubans won to Denis López/Gerson Contreras, of Nicaragua, with a score of 2-0 (21-9, 21-17).

In the other semifinal, Leonardo/García, beat Marlon Phillip / Daynte Stewart, of Trinidad and Tobago, with a score of 2-0 (21-16, 21- 14).

 

The Trinidad and Tobago team won the bronze medal by winning Lopez/Contreras, for 2-1 (21-18, 18-21, 15-10).

 

"This was a very demanding tournament, it was played at a high level, and happy because we won this stop. Like the Cuban proverb, the third one is the winner… we first won bronze in Mexico, in the previous stop in Cayman Islands we got the second place and here we complete the cycle now ", said Sergio González.

 

"At home, in Cuba (Varadero), we always have, as Cubans, the responsibility to obtain victory for our people, feel happy and support us and see that they have a team that always fights for Cuba, for the Cubans, for our families", said Gonzalez, who next week will play in Varadero, Cuba, the fourth stop of the NORCECA Tour.

 

His partner, Luis Reyes, said that "we appreciate the support of the Nicaraguan people who have come to support us and we are very happy for the victory. The venue was the most beautiful, very well organized and a good level of competence. "
