Cubans Peña and Quesada are two-for-two this year

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, April 23, 2017 – Cubans Karell Peña and Daisel Quesada recovered from losing the first set to claim the men’s gold medal of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament with a three-set victory over Canadians Maverick Hatch and Garrett May on Sunday.

The veteran Peña and the up-and-coming Quesada won their second gold medal in a row with a 2-1 (18-21, 21-16, 15-6) victory. They had also won the first event of the NORCECA Circuit two weeks ago in La Paz, Mexico.

Peña/Quesada edged Mark Burik and William Kolinske of United States 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) in the semifinals. Hatch/May had prevailed 2-1 (17-21, 21-17, 18-16) in a mouth-watering battle with compatriots Aaron Nusbaum and Ryan Vandeburg.

Burik/Kolinske took the bronze medal in another tough match against Nusbaum/Vandeburg 2-1 (18-21, 21-11, 15-13).
