Curacao breeze past Haiti

HAVANA, Cuba, May 16, 2014- Curacao defeated Haiti in straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-15) to collect their first victory in the NORCECA Women’s World Championship Volleyball Qualification Tournament Pool Q at Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum on Friday.

Curacao was the superior team from start to finish and both teams will face again on Saturday for third place.

Christine Anthony, the best offensive player for the winners with 12 points was delighted with the win.

“We are progressing and the match today was a preparation for tomorrow’s match because we don’t want to finish at the bottom of the standings,” she said.

Curacao’s coach Henry Delfina also commented about the easy victory.

“We had better attack and my players are taller, only in the second set they looked a little bit anxious,” he said.

Frederic Francois, the Haitian coach, said he expected more from his team.

“They played under pressure,” Francois admitted.
