Curacao upsets Martinique girls

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, December 7, 2015 - Defending champions Martinique girls failed an early test by stumbling to Curaçao three sets to one when the 10th CAZOVA Junior championships opened today here in Barbados.

Playing at the Wildey Gymnasium Martinique took the first set but then wilted against the attacking might of outside hitter Giany Hooi who slammed 17 kills for her team to win 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-14.  Curaçao's second outside spiker Anais Conradus supported well with 12 kills.

Matching Best Scorer Noemie Beltant scored 13 kills to keep the 2013 queens in the game but none of the other players scored more than three kills.  The ground defence of Curaçao also proved more potent than Martnique's.

Curacao's coach indicated that he was happy with the performance of his team. "This was our first game and the girls started nervous.  "I am glad that we have not only played our first game but we have won and our goal is to advance to the finals," stated Arthwin Luis.

Coach of Martinique Tania Villeronce stated that her team would rebound to get back on track to successfully defend the CAZOVA junior crown.
