De la Cruz erupts with 54 points in GS Caltex victory
PYEONGTAEK, Korea, April 2, 2014 – Dominican Bethania De la Cruz
blasted 54 points carrying GS Caltex to a 3-1 (27-25, 21-25,
25-21, 25-20) victory over IBK Altos in the fourth match of the
Korean Women’s Volleyball League on Tuesday.
The victory earned GS Caltex a 2-2 in the best-of-five final
series with the deciding fifth match to be played on Friday in
Hwaseong, home of IBK Altos, winners of the regular series.
De la Cruz reached the 50-point mark for second match in a row,
following her 50-point performance on Saturday when GS Caltex
lost the third match in five sets. Puerto Rican Karina Ocasio
finished with 31 points.
The Dominican scoring-machine now has recorded 166 points in
four matches for an average of 41.5 points per match.
“It was a do-or-die situation for our team,” De la Cruz
commented afterwards. “We tried our best to stay alive and
continue our quest for the title.”
“Now we have to go to their home court but we won there in the
opening match,” she said. “So we are confident about our
chances.”
