Dominican coach Evelyn Carreras prepares for her third National
Junior Olympic Tournament in Mexico
TIJUANA, Mexico, December 18 2012.— Former Dominican libero and
Athens 2004 National Olympic team member, Evelyn Carreras, will
coach at her third National Junior Olympic Championship in
Mexico.
Carreras Pichardo, who was hired as part of the State Sport
Program of Baja California in 2011, stated that there are too
high expectations for the tournament that will be played next
year in the city of Tijuana.
“This will be my third National Junior Olympic Championship, and
this time I will compete with the Girls Pre-Youth category. We
had very good results in 2012 and we expect to play the finals
at home in the 2013 edition,” she said.
“I feel so glad, very happy to share my experiences with these
girls. They are very good players with a good size and skills,”
she added. “They have learned how to execute the fundamentals
every session with a lot of hard work”.
The chemistry and sympathy with the youngsters have been a key
for the group of players according to the former libero who
achieved a great career at the Italian Pallavolo as well as the
Puerto Rican League.
Carreras was part of the first Women’s Olympic team that
represented the Dominican Republic in 2004. Eight years later a
new generation of players participated in London 2012.
“I felt so proud when I watched my country at the Olympic Games,
the feeling is something special when you see your flag in a far
away land. It was so amazing because this was a generation of
very talented players,” she mentioned about the participation of
the Dominican team that finished in the top eight in Great
Britain.
In the last Mexican Junior Olympic Tournament, celebrated in
Guanajuato, Carreras coached the Baja California Girls Pre-Youth
Team that won the Bronze Medal.
“We expect to play for the gold and win it this coming year,
because we will play at home,” she remarked about the tournament
scheduled from April 24th thru the 30th in
2013. |
