Bahamas win Caribbean BVB Men’s Cup Qualifier

 

CHAGUANAS, Trinidad, December 19, 2010 - Renaldo Knowles and Muller Petit defeated Fabien Whitfield and Daneil Williams in a golden set (15-11) to give Bahamas the first place over Trinidad & Tobago at the Caribbean’s NORCECA Men Sub Zonal Olympic Beach Volleyball Tournament on Sunday.

 

The duo of Knowles/Petit put Bahamas in front claiming the first match of the best-of-three series with a 2-1 (21-23, 21-15, 15-11) victory against Christian Francois/Kevin Rivers, but the hosts Trinidadians Whitfield/Williams came back with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) win over Byron Ferguson/Princtanique Wilson forcing the golden set tie-breaker.

 

Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Jamaica, the top four countries in the competition, qualified to next June’s Zonal Phase Tournament against St. Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis, Antigua & Barbuda and Dominica from Eastern Caribbean Zone.

 

The third place of the event at Saith Park in Chaguanas Beach went to Barbados when Elwin Oxley/Winston Gittens edged Jamaica’s Wayne Scott/Andre McLean by score of 15-13.

 

In Sunday’s morning action, Scott/McLean gave Jamaica a 15-12 golden set victory over Quinten Anthony/Giandro Tokaay of Curacao while Oxley/Gittens defeated Aruba’s Mitchell Daniel/Eargenell De Cuba also 15-12.

 

Earlier, Curacao’s Humphrey Vrutaal/Tokaay defeated Jamaica’s Stephen Yee-Sing/Dellan Brown (21-11, 21-19) but the duo of Scott/McLean tied the series with a 21-17, 21-9 victory against Kyran Li-Fo-SJoe/Quentin Anthony.

 

Also, Barbados’ Oxley/Gittens won 21-12, 21-17 over Aruba’s Fransua Angela/Emelindo Robles only to see Daniel/De Cuba tying up the series with a 21-7, 21-13 victory against Hugh Sealey/Jamaal Nedd.
