Development, evolution figure high in NORCECA plan
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 28, 2014 – The NORCECA
Executive Committee and Board of Administration successfully
concluded its annual three-day meetings in Santo Domingo on
Sunday.
“The NORCECA Confederation is stronger than ever and its
development program continues to be our main task as the spread
of the seeds of volleyball and beach volleyball throughout our
region is the target,” NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz
stated.
Among the development topics discussed during the weekend were
the financial assistance to national federations and zonal
associations, distribution of equipment and Sport Court
synthetic playing surfaces, the youth and junior programs,
itinerant coaches assigned to the zones, and the organization of
courses and seminars.
Mushtaque Mohammed, President of the Development Commission,
explained the 2014-2020 general strategy of development, the
scholarship program exclusively for participants of National
Federations I and II in technical courses, and the establishment
of new regional development centers.
The board members approved the audited financial statements of
2013, the projected budget corresponding to the period 2014-2016
and also received a detailed reports on the financial evolution
of NORCECA Confederation experienced from 2001-13.
Alberto Arreola, President of the Finance Commission, along with
Treasurer Jesus Prieto and Finance Manager Olga Rivas informed
the board on those items of the agenda.
They also approved the proposals submitted by the different
commissions (Beach Volleyball, Sport Organizing, Development,
Technical and Coaches, Refereeing, Press and Mass Media,
Marketing, VIS and Statistics, Legal and Medical).
The Presidents of the Sub Zones of AFECAVOL, ECVA and CAZOVA
presented their activities reports, including their particular
development programs covering volleyball and beach volleyball,
as well as the different tournaments organized in 2013 and the
2014 calendars.
Marte Hoffiz made addressed the members on the qualification
process to the FIVB World Championships in Poland and Italy now
in the final stages, the qualification to the Nanjing Youth
Olympic Games already completed, and the start of the
qualification towards the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
The Executive Committee and Board of Administration also
received the reports regarding the organization of the Men’s and
Women’s Pan American Cups in Mexico, the U-23 Pan American Cups
in Peru, the U-18 Girls’ Continental Championship in Costa Rica,
the U-19 Boys’ Continental Championship in United States, the
U-20 Continental Championship in Guatemala, the U-21 Continental
Championship in El Salvador and the Women’s Final Four in
Mexico.
A delegation from the Organizing Committee of the Pan American
Games in Toronto, Canada, led by Denis Hinault and Holly
Abraham, participated in the first day of the meetings and
presented the volleyball and beach volleyball plans.
The members in attendance besides Marte Hoffiz, Mohammed and
Prieto, were 2nd Executive Vice President Douglas Beal, Glenn
Quinlan and Hugh Wong, vice presidents, Jose Luis Jimenez,
general secretary, and Bertha Cuadra, Mireya Luis, Lucille
Hobson, Warrenton Dixon, Wilbur Harrigan, Nelson Perez, Sabinah
Clement, members, as well as the honorary members Jacques
Joachim and Edgar Alvarado.
Also Rafael Lloreda Currea, President of the South American
Volleyball Confederation as special guest, and Luis Linares,
Oscar Valdez and Enrique Santis, presidents of the National
Federations of Peru, El Salvador and Guatemala, respectively. |
