Dominica surpass Antigua and Barbuda in Group E opener

 

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, August 9 2017 - Dominica put together a good all round performance  to outdo Antigua and Barbuda, triumphing 3-1 ( 26-28, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20) to lead off Group E of the NORCECA Zone of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Championships Qualifiers (WCQ) second round  at the Beausejour Indoor facility.

 

Leading the scoring for Dominica was Yhan Florent with 25 points, with the next best being David Toussaint, who contributed 10.

 

For Antigua and Barbuda’s top scorer was Adrian Constant with 15 points and Jamarie James added 14.

 

Antigua and Barbuda was better in blocks 10-8, with Dominica more efficient in serves, bossing that segment, 10-1.

 

Reflecting on his team’s win, Dominica’s captain- Ray Robinson evaluated, “We lost the first set through some critical errors ...Through our middle play we were able to neutralise their outside hitters”.

 

Looking ahead to the rest of the tournament, Robinson commented, “We are taking it ball by ball, set by set, as we have one mission for the tournament and that is to win”.

 

Meanwhile, the captain of Antigua and Barbuda- Olsen Joseph, pointed to a loss of composure for their defeat.

 

“We started off well but we lost a bit of confidence as Dominica has a nice float service, which we unable to counter”, Joseph confirmed.

“Dominica played well, the middles worked for them and we had no stop for them, but we are still confident of making it to the finals”, Joseph concluded.  

 

Game two of the group, features St Kitts and Nevis and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
