TIJUANA, Mexico, April 29 2013. - Dominican former libero, Evelyn Carreras, will coach at her first National Junior Olympic Final in Mexico.

Carreras who joined the Baja California State Volleyball program in 2011 is coaching the female Pre-Youth Team that will match Nuevo Leon this week in contention for the gold medal.

"This has been a very wonderful experience, to work with these young girls. We have held some competitions and tournaments abroad as part of this preparation," Carreras stated.

One of those experiences was the training camp held in Honolulu, Hawaii, a couple of weeks before the National Junior Olympic Tournament.

"Our preparation was focused in some scrimmage matches against American teams in the Hawaiian region, and also to train hard along with the USA Volleyball programs," she added.

Carreras served as assistant coach in 2011 for the Baja California Junior team that won the silver medal in Yucatan. And one year ago in Guanajuato, she won her first medal in the National contest as head coach, after the Girls Pre-Youth team finished in third place.

This year Hilda Alcaraz assists her. In her international experience Carreras played in the 2004 Olympic Games of Athens with the Dominican Team as well as in many tournaments in Europe and Asia.

In 2011 she was in the coaching staff of Mexico's Girls U18 squad that competed at the U20 Pan Am Cup in Peru and the FIVB U18 World Championship in Turkey as an assistant coach of Cuban Olympic Medal winner Victor Garcia.
