Evelyn Carreras succeeds as coach in Mexico
TIJUANA, Mexico, April 29 2013. - Dominican former libero,
Evelyn Carreras, will coach at her first National Junior Olympic
Final in Mexico.
Carreras who joined the Baja California State Volleyball program
in 2011 is coaching the female Pre-Youth Team that will match
Nuevo Leon this week in contention for the gold medal.
"This has been a very wonderful experience, to work with these
young girls. We have held some competitions and tournaments
abroad as part of this preparation," Carreras stated.
One of those experiences was the training camp held in Honolulu,
Hawaii, a couple of weeks before the National Junior Olympic
Tournament.
"Our preparation was focused in some scrimmage matches against
American teams in the Hawaiian region, and also to train hard
along with the USA Volleyball programs," she added.
Carreras served as assistant coach in 2011 for the Baja
California Junior team that won the silver medal in Yucatan. And
one year ago in Guanajuato, she won her first medal in the
National contest as head coach, after the Girls Pre-Youth team
finished in third place.
This year Hilda Alcaraz assists her. In her international
experience Carreras played in the 2004 Olympic Games of Athens
with the Dominican Team as well as in many tournaments in Europe
and Asia.
In 2011 she was in the coaching staff of Mexico's Girls U18
squad that competed at the U20 Pan Am Cup in Peru and the FIVB
U18 World Championship in Turkey as an assistant coach of Cuban
Olympic Medal winner Victor Garcia. |
