Dominicans Sánchez and Castillo to semifinals in Punta Cana

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, September 16, 2017 – Top-seeded William Sánchez and Victor Castillo of Dominican Republic-A advanced to the men’s semifinals of the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament.

Sánchez/Castillo reached the final four round after a 21-9, 21-16 victory over compatriots Alex Medina and Jamel Jean Baptiste Alexandre in 34 minutes.

In the semifinals, the Dominican duo will face third-seeded Sergey Grabovsky and Fiodar Kazhamiaka of Canada-A who defeated compatriots Simon Fecteau-Boutin and Hugo Rosso-Boneau of Canada-B 2-0 (21-17, 30-28) in 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, teams representing United States will face each other in the other semifinal match in  Punta Cana.

Second-seeded Stafford Slick and William Allen of United States-A will play against compatriots the third-seeded William Kolinske and Miles Evans on Sunday morning.

Slick/Allen won their quarterfinal contest against Nicaragua’s Gerald Umaña and Dany Lopez 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) in 35 minutes.

Kolinske/Evans advanced to the final four stage following a 2-0 (21-13, 21-17) victory in 39 minutes over Guadeloupe’s Arnouts Baptiste and Cederic Lavoye.

Pool A: DOM-A d SKN 2-0 (21-7, 21-17). Pool B: CAN-B d TTO 2-0 (21-11, 21-7), USA-A d DOM-B 2-0 (21-12, 21-13). Pool C: NCA d DOM-C 2-0 (21-8, 21-16), USA-B d CAN-A 2-0 (21-19, 21-14).

Quarterfinals: USA-A d NCA 2-0 (21-12, 21-14), CAN-A d CAN-B 2-0 (21-17, 30-28), USA-B d GPE 2-0 (21-13, 21-17), DOM-A d DOM-B 2-0 (21-9, 21-16).
