Dominicans beat Thailand, improve record to 5-4

RIMINI, Italy, June 8, 2021 - The Dominican Republic dominated Thailand in straight sets to improve their win-loss record to 5-4 at the FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League in Rimini, Italy.

The Dominicans beat the Thais 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) and extended their dominance in the head-to-head matches against the Asian team to 9-3, including the last 5 times.

For the second day in a row, the attacker Yonkaira Peña was the top producer in the Dominican offense with 18 points, followed by Brayelin Martínez with 12 despite the fact that she was rested in the third set as well as her sister Jineiry (5 points).

Prisilla Rivera contributed 11 points and veteran Annerys Vargas contributed 7 points, five blocks included.

Pleumjit Thinkaow and Onuma Sittirak stood out for Thailand with 12 and 7 points, respectively, and Karina Krause finished with 6 points.

The Dominicans led in attacks 45-33, blocks 11-3 and aces 3-1. They gave away 19 points via unforced errors compared to 16 by the Thais.
