Dominicans breath again versus Antigua and Barbuda

 

HAVANA, Cuba, June 28, 2016 – Dominican team did not have difficulty to sweep Antigua and Barbuda 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-16) to become the rival of Jamaica tomorrow in the game for the fifth place of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship, also Qualifying Tournament for the World Championship in 2017.

 

In an hour-match, Antigua and Barbuda took their fourth defeat in a row; whereas their opponents attained to get better their record (2-3) after this break.

 

Bayron Valdéz, outside hitter, led again the Dominican offensive (24) in a match where the attack was the main winners’ weapon (30-13).

 

Vicente Painagua, coach of Dominican Republic, stated “finally we had a relaxed game to wait up for tomorrow to assume the commitment against Jamaica who is a tough rival as they play through the centre of the court a lot and for which we do not have tall middle blockers.”

 

Bayron, captain, also said it was an easy match. ”Although our opponents do not have much level, we tried to improve what we made wrong against the others. So, hopefully we will enjoy next match in search of the victory.

 

Olsen Joseph, coach of Antigua and Barbuda, explained unhappily “today my pupils were really confused. They missed many balls and did not pay attention to the instructions I gave. We tried to make the players follow them as instructed, but it was in vain.”

 

Cairon Davis, captain, a middle blocker who is more than two meters tall, confessed the head coach called their attention constantly. “We made errors in the defence, service and pass. In fact, nothing went off smoothly. What is worse, when we tried to react to it it was too late.”
