Dominicans claim first win in Pool A

TOKYO, Japan, July 31, 2021 – Dominican Republic beat Kenya 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-8) in a match between winless teams in Pool A of the women’s volleyball tournament at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Saturday morning.

The Dominicans now have a 1-3 win-loss record and need to beat host Japan in their next outing to advance to the quarterfinals round.

Lisvel Eve and Prisilla Rivera led the balanced attack of the Dominican Republic with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Bethania de la Cruz added 8 points and Jineiry Martínez and Gaila Gonzalez chipped in with 7 points apiece.

Leonida Kasaya was the best Kenyan with 8 points, followed by Morcy Moim and Sharon Kiprono each with 7 points.
