Dominicans claim ticket to NORCECA WCQT

BELIZE CITY, Belize, September 30, 2016.- Dominican Republic claimed the last ticket to the NORCECA Men’s FIVB World Championship qualification tournament defeating El Salvador 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-12) at the AFECAVOL zonal qualifier in St. Catherine Academy Center of Belize City.

Dominican Republic had no difficulties in dominating El Salvador with a powerful and solid performance, in their last outing of the event. Dominicans finish in second place with 5-1 record and 24 points. El Salvador ends with 3-3 and 15 points, they have to wait for the result between Belize and Honduras later on, for their final position.

Dominican’s superiority was overwhelming, they held a 35-13 margin in kills, 8-1 in blocks and 15-1 in serves, they committed 25 errors. El Salvador had 17 errors.

Middle blocker Wilfrido Hernandez and outside hitter Henry Lopez scored 12 points apiece.

Jonathan Mercedes, of Dominican Republic: “We weren’t expecting tough teams here in Central America and losing to Guatemala took us by surprise. Now we will continue to practice, we will play the Men’s World Club Championship in October”.

Rodrigo Chavez, captain of El Salvador: “We are going back home to rest, El Salvador hasn’t have any indoor tournaments left for the rest of the year; the players who practice beach volleyball will continue their activity. We must think about our future preparation to put on a better show. This was an awesome event, personally I had never faced Dominican Republic and it gives me a lot of experience”.
