Dominicans claims second win at U-18 Pan Am Cup

 

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 30, 2013. - Dominican Republic claimed its second win at the U-18 Girls Pan American Cup by defeating Peru in straight (25-21, 25-15, 25- 21) on Tuesday.

 

Dominicans was superior scoring18 blocks and 4 aces against 5 and 2 respectively by Peru. The winners have a 2-0 win-loss record while Peru drops to 0-2.

 

Brayelin Martinez was the best scorer for Dominican Republic with 20 points, Gaila Gonzalez and Angelica Hinojosa chipped in with 10 each. Barbara Briceño was the best scorer for Peru with 12 points.

 

A shy and happy Brayelin Martínez said “I think we could have won much easier but it’s natural at our age that we feel over confident”.

 

Cristina Cuba, Peruvian captain indicated “we proved that Peru has more to show, unfortunately yesterday wasn’t the case. This wasn’t the result we expected but our progress is doing well”.

 

Wagner Pacheco, Brazilian coach for Dominican Republic expressed that the emotional side of his players varies due to their young age “we must work on the psychological aspect because the girls have an excess of confidence; I congratulate Peru because they’re working with a new generation”.

 

“Dominican Republic has a well-designed technical plan, they are very strong and they will give much to talk about at the World Championship. We are reaching our goal which is to prepare more” said Enrique Briceño.
