Dominicans defeat Peru with 31 points by Madeline Guillén

LIMA, Peru, August 5, 2017 – Led by the attack of top scorer Madeline Guillen with 31 points, the Dominican Republic will play Argentina for the title of the U18 Final Four Herbalife Cup after defeating hosts Peru 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 26-28, 25-14, 15-11).

Guillen was accompanied in the list of top scorers by the Captain Natalia Martinez who contributed 22 points and Geraldine Gonzalez who added 15. The top scorers for the Peruvian side were Kiara Montes with 17 points, Danitza Llaro 14 and Thaisa McLeod with 13. The winners dominated in attacks (59-47), blocks (18-8) and aces (8-5).

Alexandre Ceccato, coach of Dominican Republic: To play here in Peru is very difficult. Their team has improved a lot from last year. The results in the Final Four tell us that the world championship in Argentina will be very tough.

Madeline Guillen, top Dominican scorer: Peru is a very strong team with a strong serve and we failed a lot in our reception but thanks to God we could overcome and win. This Final Four has been tough, but with God’s help we were able to do our best.

Marco Queiroga, coach of Peru: The tournament has been very short and very intense. Today we had a brilliant game and the decisive factor was the experience of the Dominican players, while we had two players from the lower youth team. However they are improving, adding experience and the quality is improving every day and that is the objective for the world championship, to advance as far as we can.

Kiara Montes, top scorer of Peru: I think today we lacked definition in some moments with our attack but it is good that this happened here because that is a learning experience. We will face them again in the world championship in Argentina and now we know what to do and not.
