Dominicans improve to 4-0 with victories over China and Brazil at U18

 

ORLANDO, Florida, June 24, 2016 – The Dominican Republic U18 Girls Volleyball National Team continued their winning ways at the 43rd AAU Girls- Junior National Volleyball Championships by scoring impressive victories over powerhouses China and Brazil on Friday.

 

The Dominicans improved to a 4-0 win-loss record at the U18 International Division of the largest volleyball annual competition held in United States. They had registered wins against Slovenia and Mexico.

 

Massiel Matos and Vielka Peralta spearheaded the offensive efforts of the winners who once again played solid defense led by libero Gabriela Hernández.

 

Matos is taking part in the U18 for the second year in a row. In 2015, she won the competition for the best vertical jump with one of 30 inches and continues to progress.

 

The Dominicans first defeated China 2-0 (25-11, 25-15) and continued with a 2-0 (25-19, 25-16) over Brazil in a duel between undefeated side.

 

The next two matches of the Dominican team will be against Puerto Rico and Colombia.

 

The leaders of the U18 International Division have an 8-0 record in sets and top the point-ratio category by a wide margin with 1.5504 to 1.0979 of Brazil.

 

Provisional Standings: 1. Dominican Republic 4-0 (8-0, 1.5504); 2. Brazil 3-1 (6-4, 1.0979); 3. Slovenia 2-2 (4-4, 0.9942); 4. China 2-2 (5-6, 1.0099), 5. Puerto Rico 2-2 (4-5, 0.9110); 6. Mexico 1-3 (4-6, 0.9493); 7. Colombia 0-4 (2-8, 0.7188).
