Dominicans make impact in Fort Lauderdale debut

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 20, 2016 – The U20 and U18 Female National Teams of Dominican Republic debuted with victories at the International Division at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships on Tuesday.

In a battle between U20 NORCECA teams, the Dominican Republic defeated Canada 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-23) with Brenda Rodriguez leading the best scorers with 14 points, followed by Lady Laura Pérez and Isaura Dájer with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

In Wednesday’s actions, the Dominicans face the USA Girls Youth 1 Team who lost to the United States Junior National Team in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-16) on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the U18 Dominicans prevailed after a five-set duel with USA Blue A1 3-2 (25-13, 21-25, 23-25, 25-10, 15-3).

Natalia Martinez and Madeline Medrano led the scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Vielka Peralta and Masiel Matos added 9 points each.

The Dominicans will play two matches on Wednesday against GEVA Girls Youth and SCVA Girls Youth, respectively, who won their matches on Tuesday.

GEVA defeated AZ Girls 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17) and SCVA beat New England Girls 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-16).
