Dominicans open with three victories at U18 Event in Orlando

ORLANDO, Florida, June 25, 2018 – The Dominican Republic started off on the right foot at the AAU International Volleyball Championships in Orlando winning their three matches on opening day in the International Division for Girls of 18 years-old on Monday.

The Dominicans first won over Slovenia 25-16, 25-12 and then came back to beat Colombia (Pony’s Club) 25-16, 25-11) before capping their day with a 25-15, 25-22 victory against Puerto Rico.

Yanlis Feliz and Natalia Martínez led the victory over Slovenia with 10 and 8points while Flormarie Herdia had 11 as the best scorer against Colombia.

Martínez and Feliz topped the scorers against Puerto Rico with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The Dominicans are scheduled to meet teams of Colombia (Sport Voyager), China and Israel on Tuesday.

They will close the International Division Tournament with matches against Brazil and Australia on Wednesday.

The Dominicans are currently in first place with a 1.6304 point-ratio which is better than Brazil’s 1.6000 who lost one set while also winning three matches on Monday.

The South Americans defeated Colombia (Sport Voyager) 25-7 25-10 and Slovenia 25-13, 25-18 before winding up their day with a 2-1 (25-17, 20-25, 15-10) victory over Israel.
