Dominicans sweep Caribbean Series

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, January 6, 2019 – The Dominican Republic swept Puerto Rico as winner of the three matches of the Women’s Volleyball Caribbean Series disputed at Roberto Clemente Coliseum of Hato Rey from January 4 to 6.

After winning 3-1 and 3-0 the first two matches of the inaugural competition, the Dominicans came back on Sunday looking for the sweep and they did it winning by scores of 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 28-26).

Prisilla Rivera was the top scorer for the Dominican side with 13 points, followed by Bethania de la Cruz and Brayelin Martínez each with 12 points. Candida Arias chipped in with 8 points while Annerys Vargas added 6 in the victory.

Paulina Prieto had a match-high 15 points for Puerto Rico while Pilar Victoriá added 12 in the losing effort.

The match was pretty evened as the Dominicans led by slight margin the scoring categories 46-42 in attacks, 6-5 in blocks and 5-2 in aces. They also made fewer errors 16-21.
