Dominicans vs Puerto Rico for AAU International Title
ORLANDO, Florida, June 27, 2018 – The Dominican Republic will
meet Puerto Rico for the title on Thursday morning at the Girls’
18 International Group of the 45th AAU National Volleyball
Championships held in Orlando.
The Dominicans arrived into the final day of the round robin
competition with an undefeated 6-0 win-loss record and went on
to defeat Brazil 2-0 (25-17, 25-23) and Australia also 2-0 (25-7
25-12) to finish with an unblemished mark.
Erika Asencio and Natalia Martinez contributed with the heaviest
load of the Dominican offense with 9 and 8 points, respectively,
against Brazil.
Yanlis Feliz had 7 points for the Dominican Republic while
Asencio and Flormarie Colon each chipped in with 5 points
against Australia.
Meanwhile, Puerto Rico finished second in the pool with a 7-1
record following their victories over Colombia (Sport Voyager)
2-0 (25-17, 25-12) and Slovenia 2-0 (25-14, 25-13).
Brazil concluded in third place with a 6-2 mark after winning
two matches on Wednesday against Australia 2-0 (25-10, 25-12)
and over Colombia (Pony’s Club) 2-0 (25-16, 25-15). The
Brazilians will play China in the consolation round.
As the top ranked team of the International Group will face the
top ranked team of the United States Group for the overall title
of the age-group division on Thursday. |
