The captain of Cuba Elizabeth Vicet was the top scorer of the match with 23 points, followed by Ailama Cese with 22 markers. The best Peruvians were Kiara Montes, Shanaiya Ayme and Aixa Vigil with 22, 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Cuba claimed the victory thanks to its strong service registering 18 aces to only 4 by Peru. The Cubans also were better in attacks (53-50) while the girls in red and white shirts dominated in blocking 17-12.

Tomas Fernández, coach of Cuba: It was a very intense match. In these categories that is the way it is. There is no small rivals and I thin Peru is a better finished team than ours due their technical fundaments. The lack of experience worked against us because only two of our played have had international experience.

Elizabeth Vicet, captain of Cuba: We started well stressed and things were not working to our side. After the first points we shook off the nerves and started to fine tune our serves, so we got into the rhythm. The importance of the match was that we were able to get the confidence about getting our objective.

Mario Queiroga, coach of Peru: The competition is pretty even as the two first matches went to the five-set limit as the teams change a lot. In our game, Cuba made the difference with their serves, we blocked and attacker better but could not take advantage of the moments when we had the lead. The pressure and tension played against us.

Flavia Montes, captain of Peru: The thing that always cause damage to us is the definition. We need to work on it to finish the matches. We battle every point, were able to overcome adversity but couldn’t close the match. Cuba made a lot of damage with the potent serves.
