Emotional victory of Panama over Costa Rica

 

PANAMA CITY, Panama, July 25, 2016 – Panama capped the opening day at the U23 Men’s Central American Volleyball Championship with a thrilling victory over Costa Rica in five sets at José “Beto” Remón Gymnasium on Monday night.

 

It was a seesaw match as Panama took the lead, Costa Rica tied up, then Panama recaptured the lead only to see Costa Rica winning the fourth set to force a fifth set that lasted 30 minutes. The final score was 3-2 (25-17, 19-25, 25-23, 11-25, 21-19).

 

José Anguizola stood out for Panama with 18 points of his own to help the victory, while Daniel Sanchez and Uriel Batista chipped in with 13 and 12, respectively. For Costa Rica, César Gómez and Luis Padilla scored 18 and 17 points, while Walter Serrano had 14 in the loss.

 

Costa Rica gave away 43 points via unforced errors, while Panama had 40.
