Exciting semifinal women’s matches in Tobago

TOBAGO, November 26, 2016 – The USA teams of Brooke Sweat/Emily Day and Kimberly DiCello/Summer Ross will clash each other in the first women’s semifinal match of the Trinidad & Tobago Beach Volleyball Tournament, the final stop of the NORCECA Circuit, on Sunday.

The second semifinal contest will see Cubans Yanisleidis Sanchez/Lidiannis Echeverría facing Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes/Jamie Broder.

In the quarterfinals phase, Sweat and Day defeated Canada’s Julie Gordon and Brandie Wilkerson 21-17, 21-13 while DiCello and Ross beat LaTeisha Joseph and Malika Davidson, the local duo from Trinidad & Tobago, 21-4, 21-12.

Sanchez and Echeverría won over Guatemala’s Maria Jose Orellana and Maria Andrea Orellana 21-16, 21-11 while Humana-Paredes and Broder beat Costa Rica’s Marcela Araya and Eugenia Ramirez 21-12, 21-9.

In 2016, the Cuban pair won the title at home in Varadero while DiCello got the victory in Guaymas, Mexico alongside Kendra Vanzwieten. Broder is the defending champion here after claiming the crown with Kristina Valjas last year. The team of Day and Ross won here in 2012.

Earlier on Saturday, the Cuban pair edged Sweat/Day 21-19, 21-18 to claim first place in Pool A and DiCello and Ross outdueled Humana-Paredes/Broder 24-22, 21-15 for the top position in Pool B. Gordon and Wilkerson claimed the first place in Pool C with a 21-19, 21-8 victory against Joseph and Davidson.
