Female Cuban Teams to arrive in DR on Sunday
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, May 3, 2014 – Cuba’s female
U18 and U20 female volleyball teams are to arrive in Santo
Domingo on Sunday to train and play against their corresponding
sides from the Dominican Republic.
Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, Chairman of the Dominican Republic
Volleyball Federation’s female program, made the announcement on
Saturday.
“We are very glad to receive the Cuban training teams as the
national volleyball forces of both countries continue their
preparation for the NORCECA Continental Championships during
summer season,” Marte Hoffiz said.
“Those teams will train and play matches for one week at the
facilities of the volleyball complex located in the Juan Pablo
Duarte Olympic Park in Santo Domingo, and will be of benefit for
both countries’ sides,” he added.
The NORCECA U18 Continental Championship, which grants three
spots to the FIVB World Championship in 2015, will take place in
Costa Rica from June 22-28 while the U20 will be contested in
Guatemala from July 6-14 with two vacancies available to next
year’s world championship.
The Dominican Republic U20 Team is currently the number one
ranked team in NORCECA while Cuba is ranked 5th at a continental
level. In the U18 class, the Dominicans are ranked 2nd and Cuba
has no ranking. |
