Figueroa introduced as new president of Medical Commission

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 23, 2013 –Dominican Dr. Victor Figueroa was introduced as new president of the NORCECA Medical Commission during its annual meeting held in Santo Domingo on Saturday.

Figueroa now holds the position occupied by the late Dr. Andrés Piña del Rosario, who passed away last year and presided over the commission for more than a decade.

Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA, delivered speech about all the personal qualities of Dr. Piña del Rosario before the members observed a minute of silence in his memory.

Figueroa made a report of the results of the recent meeting of the FIVB Medical Commission held in Lausanne, Switzerland and also informed about the updated list of banned substances.

Dr. Raúl Medina presented a report of the anti-doping tests performed last year in all NORCECA competitions in both volleyball and beach volleyball.

The members of the commission discussed how to improve the conditions to conduct the tests and also the issued related to the health of referees.

Figueroa, together with Medina and Dr. Hector Lozada, were commissioned to prepare a report of all the injuries sustained by players during the competitions.
