Fonoimoana & Quiggle head seven teams already in quarters

OCHO RIOS, Montego Bay, Jamaica, November 15, 2019 - USA-A’s Falyn Fonoimoana and Corinne Quiggle, winners of the previous gold medal in Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic are among seven teams already through to the quarterfinals after day one  of the tenth and final leg of the 2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour.

Pre-tournament favourites, Fonoimoana and Quiggle defeated Trinidad and Tobago’s Rheeza Grant and La Teisha  Joseph 2-0 (21-11, 21-12) while United States Virgin Islands Taylor Nutterfield and the late arriving Melanie Valenciana , who literally came out off a taxi from the airport and straight to the playing courts, also beat TTO 2-0 (25-23, 21-17) to earn a spot in the main draw next round from Pool A.

Cubans Yanisleidis Sanchez and Lidiannis Echeverria who ended second in Hato Mayo, also started on a winning note in Pool B, 2-0 (21-12, 21-1) over Canada-B’s Megan Nash and Alexandra Poletto, who won bronze two weeks ago. Canada-A ‘s  Devon May and Draby Dunn also beat Nash and Poletto 2-1 (20-22, 21-13, 15-12).

Nicaraguans Valeria Mendoza and Lolette Rodriguez , and Curacao’s Angjeny Tolentino, and Leandra Savonije have earned the  two qualifying spots to the main draw from Pool C.
This after Mendoza and Rodriguez beat Jamaica-B’s Tavia Watson and Selena Mitchell 2-0 (21-7, 21-7), and United States Virgin Islands-B Jade Vitt and Lisa Dietrich 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) while Curacoa beat ISV-B 2-1 (12-21, 21-12, 15-7), and JAM-B 21-5, 21-11.

Guatemalans Estafanie Bethancourt and Natalia Giron are first team to reach the main draw from Pool D, thanks to wins against Arubans Jackie  Toussaint 2-0 (21-11, 21-15), and Costa  Ricans, Angel Williams, and Camila Villegas 2-0 (21-10, 21-14).
