Former Dominican players take part in Seminar

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, December 4, 2014 – Five former players of the Dominican Republic Women’s National team took part in the recently concluded International Seminar of Defense, Reception and Libero held in Santo Domingo.

The Seminar was directed by FIVB Instructor Juan Cartagena of Puerto Rico with the assistance of Vicente Paniagua of Dominican Republic.

Nurys Arias, a star attacker for the Dominican team for many years, was one of the participants who receiver her certificate at the closing ceremony. She was joined by Juana Saviñón, Larissa Reyes, Yudelka Bonilla and Griseida Rodriguez, also former national players.

“I am really satisfied after participating in this seminar as I am starting a coaching career trying to help the young players in San Cristobal, my native province,” Arias said. “We have so many talented girls and I want to contribute to their development and progress.”

Besides Arias, San Cristobal has produced players like Cosiris Rodriguez, a mainstay in the Dominican national teams for almost two decades, and current star libero Brenda Castillo, who started her career under the wings of Rodriguez.

Cartagena said:

“I am proud to have had Nurys and the other players taking part in the seminar. Former players are very important to transmit knowledge and experience so I can predict successful career for all of them as instructors and eventual coaches.”
