Four Dominican teams complete rosters following draft

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 19, 2018 – The draft of players to fill the rosters of the four teams taking part in the Women’s Volleyball Tournament of the National District took place on Monday in Santo Domingo.

The first player selected, following a lottery system implemented last week, was middle blocker Jineiry Martinez by Las Guerreras, followed by Yanlis Feliz by Mirador, Gaila Gonzalez by Cristo Rey and Lisvel Eve by Las Caribeñas, all opposites.

“I feel satisfied and surprised about being selected as the first player by Guerreras with so many good players available and with higher level than me,” said Martínez, 19, who is member of the starting lineup of the senior women’s national team.

In the second round three teams went on to pick setters with Camila de la Rosa (Mirador), Yokaty Pérez (Cristo Rey) and Camil Domínguez (Caribeñas) while Guerreras took outside hitter Erasma Moreno.

The draft was carried out by the National District Volleyball Association presided over by Angel Rivas. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on April 6.

Guerreras and Mirador will be coached by Brazilians Alexandre Cecatto and Wagner Pacheco, respectively, while Cristo Rey and Caribeñas will have Dominicans Wilson Sánchez and Cristian Cruz.

The composition of the teams is as follows:

Guerreras: Jineiry Martinez, Erasma Moreno,  Yonkaira Peña, Dahiana Burgos, Sara Cruz, Angélica Hinojosa, Jarolin de los Santos, Niverka Marte, Joeliza Mota y Lissette Jiménez, Jeoselina Rodríguez, Yanelis Cabada Mendoza, Larysmer Martínez, Ana Binet and Laura Paniagua.

Mirador: Yanlis Feliz, Bethania de la Cruz, Natalia Martínez, Flormarie Heredia Colón, Ileim Marte, Raquel Rodríguez, Ysaura Dájer, Belkis Agramonte, Geraldine González, Mariela Jiménez,  Durán, Erica Calderón. Mesalina Severino; Camila de la Rosa, Lissanet Durán and Cherlin Basilio.

Cristo Rey: Gaila González, Erika Asencio, Marianne Fersola, Marifranchi Rodríguez, Estefhany Rabit,  Brenda Rodríguez, Madeline Guillén, Ana Fabián, Perla Aybar, Romina Medina, Erika Soriano, Yulisbeth Payano, Alondra Reyes. Yokaty Pérez, Juana González, Brenda Castillo and Pamela Jorge.
