Four daily matches at Men’s Pan Am Cup

 

GATINEAU, Canada, July 24, 2017 – The XII Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup gets underway on Tuesday with eight teams from The Americas preparing their squads for the qualification to next year’s FIVB World Championship.

 

In the preliminary round defending champions Cuba, Dominican Republic, United States and Mexico will compete in Pool A while Argentina, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Canada will battle in Pool B.

 

The pool winners will move directly to the semifinal round while the second and third placed teams will play in the quarterfinals on July 28 with semifinals and medal matches on July 29-30.

 

All the matches will be live streamed and available per request at NORCECA TV for the price of $13.00.

 

Last year in Mexico City, Cuba took home the top honors by defeating Argentina in a marathon gold medal match 3-2 (30-32, 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 19-17). Canada won the bronze with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 29-27) victory over hosts Mexico.

 

It was the second title for Cuba in the last three years. United States lead the overall standings with five gold medals, followed by Brazil with three. Mexico won their only title in 2007.

 

Four daily matches are scheduled with Puerto Rico and Argentina opening the competition at 14:00 followed by the matches Cuba vs Dominican Republic (16:00), United States vs Mexico (18:00) and Venezuela vs Canada (20:00).
