Grenada beats Antigua 3-1 to take 5th place

PHILLIPSBURG, St. Maarten, July 26, 2015 - Grenada got the better of Antigua and Barbuda defeating them 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25 -20 and 32-30) to take fifth place in the ECVA Junior Male Championship.

Surprisingly Antigua and Barbuda had more team scores in spikes (41-28) and blocks (10-7) than Grenada but trailed (4-5 ) Serve.

Adrian Constant waged a one man war in collecting 17 points the highest among all scorers but it was all in vain as he ended on the losing side. The winners had Jayvon Gilbert and Sherman Clement with 11 and 10 points respectively as their leading scorers.

Josh Noel the coach of Grenada was still not satisfied despite the win. “This team can perform much better than playing for 5th place. We had good starts in all our games and at some point after playing hard they tend to relax and allow the other teams to catch up. When this happens the blame game set it and our entire game plan just goes through the door.

Coach Olsen Joseph of Antigua did not hide his disappointment “We were our own worst enemy committing too many errors service errors in particular and that caused us to lose momentum. Meanwhile the opponents were racking up points. Although we played a much better game overall it was too much to overcome in the end”, he claimed.
