Guatemala and Costa Rica dominate qualification

 

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, December 10, 2016 – The teams of Guatemala-1 (Natalia Girón/Estefanie Bethancourt) and Costa Rica-1 (Lucía Matarrita/Valeria Matarrita) won their respective women’s pools at the IX Central American Junior Championship.

 

Guatemalans Girón and Bethancourt finished with three victories in the same number of outings by defeating Angel Williams and Vivian Hernández of Costa Rica-2 by 21-7, 21-12, in their last match of the qualification phase.

 

Also, siblings Lucía and Valeria Matarrita of Costa Rica finished the first phase of the tournament without losses.

 

The Costa Ricans won 21-13, 21-11 over Paola Alvarado and María Juárez of Guatemala-2 and secured first place in Pool B with 21-7, 22-20 victory over Blanca Colato and Paula Gómez of El Salvador.
