Guatemala wins to keep on the run for a medal

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, September 8, 2017.- Guatemala won to Panama 3-0  (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) to keep on the run for a medal at the XVII AFECAVOL U-21 Men’s Central American Championship being held at the IND Volleyball venue in Managua, Nicaragua.

Guatemala controlled all the actions from start to finish, with superiority in kills (31-26) and 7 aces to none. In blocking both teams scored 6 points.

Edgar Maldonado was Guatemala’s best scorer with 14 points, helped by Sergy Rodriguez with 12. Panama’s Jose Anguizola scored 14 points.

Reider Lucas, Head coach of Guatemala said “we played much better today, yesterday we committed too many errors; winning to Panama 3-0 was super important because that way we will only depend on our own result for earning a medal. Later today we’ll face Honduras and try to do the same”.

Eugenio Ortiz, Head coach of Honduras commented “we played badly, the boys weren’t coordinated enough, the reception was off; we must play better in our next evening session if we pretend to win. We were missing a couple of key players due to injuries and it also affected us”.
