Guatemala with easy win over Panama

 

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, August 9, 2016.- Guatemala easily beat Panama 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-16) on the last match on Tuesday at the AFECAVOL Women’s U23 Central American Championship in Gimnasio 7 de Diciembre Alfonso Gordillo.

 

The host had no complications in earning their third victory of tournament, mastering every element of the game over a disordered Panamanian squad. Guatemala has 3-0 record and Panama remains win-less 4-0.

 

Guatemala used all its players with huge advantage in spikes 30-10, in blocking 5-0 and in serves 13-1. In errors they were similar; Guatemala committed 24 and Panama 27.  

 

Opposite Natalia Giron of Guatemala led with 14 points, followed by outside hitter Estefanie Bethancourt with 12 points.  

 

Guatemala (3-0) will face Honduras (2-1) and Panama (0-4) meets El Salvador (2-2).

 

While asked how she feels as her team remains unbeaten, Estefanie Bethancourt answered “we are very happy with the results and we want to continue strong in the following matches. Today all the players had a chance to play and we felt comfortable together as well as confident, everyone did their job well and the team performed united”.

 

William Fernandez coach of Guatemala expressed “we continue giving opportunities to all our players, we are preparing for what’s coming next, which we consider the toughest matches. The team is ready; we already practiced tomorrow’s strategy, hoping not to be off guard”.

 

“We were expecting a rough match, Guatemala has great mobility, a lot of spiking variations, good receiving and serves; we tried our best using different line-ups and the one in the last set worked the best” indicated coach Juan Giron of Panama.
