Historic year for Anguilla in Volleyball
ANGUILLA, February 13, 2013 - Historic is one word that can be
used to describe the recently concluded 2012 Volleyball season
in Anguilla, the season was filled with many firsts, tournaments
and training opportunities for the members of the Anguilla
Amateur Volleyball Association.
For the first time, in history, both the male and female
national squads have progressed to the second round of the
Volleyball World Championships Qualifiers, an international and
regional based tournament. In addition to this, male and female
beach volleyball teams attended the ninth round of Norceca Beach
Volleyball Continental Circuit Tournament in St. Lucia.
The Jumeirah Resort sponsored its first ever beach volleyball
tournament, which was opened to both adults and the primary
schools. The Jumeirah Beach Volleyball Classic was staged at
the scenic and historic Forest Bay and returned many locals to
this forgotten beach.
2013 plans to be a very active year for the sport of Volleyball
in Anguilla. The male and female national squads are slated to
travel to Suriname (June 13 -17) and Trinidad (May 23-26)
respectively, to participate in the second round of the World
Championships Qualifiers.
The male junior squad will travel to St. Martin (11-15 July),
while the female junior squad will travel to St. Lucia to
participate in the ECVA Junior Championships. Antigua will host
the male and female youth tournaments at a date to be
announced.
Players will also have the opportunity to participate in several
regional beach volleyball events slated for Cayman Islands,
Mexico and other countries. |
