Honduras beats Belize in four sets

 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, September 7, 2017.- Honduras came from behind to beat Belize 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-18) and add their second win at the XVII AFECAVOL U-21 Men’s Central American Championship at the IND Volleyball venue in Managua, Nicaragua.

 

Belize took Honduras by surprise in the first set and then turn the actions around to finish on top in four sets. Honduras has 2-0 win-loss record while Belize remains win-less with 0-3.

 

Both teams were similar in spikes with a 43-40 margin for Belize, they finished tied with 6 aces. Honduras held advantage in blocking  (10-4).

 

Alex Godoy led Honduras with 14 points, joined by Sebastian Aguirre with 12 points. Francis hauze of Belize scored a match-high of 25 points and Michael Jenkins contributed with 20 points.

 

Alejandro Castillo, Head coach of Honduras commented “this is a very complicated event and good results come from team work. Our lack of experience and overconfident attitude were the reason to lose set one, but we achieved our goal”.

 

Delio Arruebarrena, Head coach of Belize said “we started very well, but we lost concentration for a momento and the boys weren’t capable of keeping the same rhythm thru out the rest of the match; this is a normal result for young players like my team”.
