Inspiring 36-point performance by Brayelin

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, June 5, 2019 - Brayelin Martinez inspired the Dominican Republic to a thrilling 3-2 (31-29, 13-25, 30-28, 20-25, 16-14) win over Thailand in Bangkok Wednesday evening, collecting 36 points for a new entry at No. 3 in the list of players to have scored 30 points or more in a single Volleyball Nations League match.

Martinez, 22, had 33 kills from 62 swings for a 53% efficiency and added three more points from blocks against Thailand.

This is her second entry in the VNL best scorers list, in at joint No. 3. It is her second slot in the list, after last year's 31-point performance against Korea in Ningbo (2-3).

Martinez is the fifth player so far this season to make the VNL list, after three entries by Poland's Malwina Smarzek (including an all-time high of 41) and one each by Italy's Paola Egonu and Indre Sorokaite, and Germany's Louisa Lippmann.

The Dominican Republic v Thailand game also became the highest-scoring in the history of the VNL. At 231 points (110+121) it shattered the previous record of 225 set just a few hours earlier in the Germany v Brazil game in Lincoln.
