Italy overcomes Canada in five sets

TOKIO, Japan, July 24, 2021 – Alessandro Michieletto exploded with 24 points as Italy scored a sensational come-from-behind victory by recovering from two sets down to edge Canada 3-2 (26-28, 18-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-11) in the first match of the volleyball tournament of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Cuban-born Osmany Juantorena contributed 21 points in the victory and Luca Vettori added 10.

Nicholas Hoag and John Gordon Perrin were the best scorers for Canada with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Italy outscored Canada 10-5 in blocks and 7-4 in aces.
