Jacques Joachim passes

away in Haiti

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 1, 2021 – The NORCECA Confederation is deeply saddened to inform of the passing of our Honorary Vice President the venerable Jacques Joachim in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

 

One of the founders of our Confederation in 1968, Jacques presided over the Haitian Volleyball Federation for three decades.

 

During his life dedicated to serve his country in several public capacities besides the sport of volleyball, Joachim received numerous recognitions including the Mintonette Medallion of Merit Award presented in 2017 by the International Volleyball Hall of Fame for significant and individual achievement.

 

In recognition of his work, his passion for volleyball, the great sacrifices he made for the advancement of volleyball, the FIVB awarded him the Order of the Grand Cross - Silver.

 

“This is a very difficult time for all the NORCECA Family,” said President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz. “Jacques was a beloved friend and associated throughout the years whose contributions were always much appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the members of the Haitian Volleyball Federation”.

 

Engineer-Colonel Joachim was also Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications of Haiti from November 14, 1986 to February 7, 1988.
