Arecibo takes a 2-0 lead in Puerto Rico

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, January 10, 2013 – The Arecibo Captains took a 2-0 lead in the final series of the Puerto Rican Men’s Superior League following a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 27-25, 25-16) over Guaynabo Mets at Mario “Quijote” Morales Coliseum on Wednesday night.

Arecibo, a first-year franchise, needs only two more victories in the best-of-seven series to claim the title.

Mariem Moreau and Luis “Feñito” Rodriguez topped the score charts of the winning side with 17 and 15 points respectively. Hector “Picky” Soto and Joel Otero added 12 and 10. Guaynabo’s Pablo Guzman finished with 17 points.

The winners held a 13-9 advantage in the blocking category with Rodriguez and Gerardo Arias leading the way with three apiece.

The third match of the series is scheduled on Friday at Manuel “Petaca” Iguina Coliseum of Arecibo.
