Six Americans competing for the Globe Award
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, January 17, 2013 – Six female
players from the United States and one each from Dominican
Republic and Cuba advanced to the second round of the 2012
Globe Award elections conducted by volleyball.it, a website
based in Modena, Italy.
The American players favored by the worldwide vote of the fans
are opposite Destinee Hooker, spikers Jordan Larson and Logan
Tom, middle blocker Christa Harmotto, libero Nicole Davis and
setter Carli Lloyd. Cuban Rosir Calderon advanced among the
opposites while Dominican Brenda Castillo advanced among the
libero players.
Hooker crushed Canada’s Sarah Pavan 74-26, Larson easily won
80-20 against Turkey’s Gozde Kirdar-Sonsirma, Lloyd downed
Germany’s Kathleen Weiss 67-33 while Davis overwhelmed Serbia’s
Suzana Cebic 65-35.
In a close vote, Tom edged Italy’s Caterina Bosetti 52-48 and
Harmotto won 55-45 over Serbia’s Milena Rosic. Calderon overcame
Poland’s Malgorzata Glinka Mogentale 54-46 while Castillo
brushed aside China’s Zhang Xian 70-30.
Fans from all over the world had the chance to vote via internet
during the period of January 8-12. The second-round pairings for
fans to vote during the January 21-25 period are the following:

Tom v Carolina Costagrande (Italy-Argentina), Lloyd v Dani Lins
(Brazil), Davis v Enrica Merlo (Italy), Harmotto v Fabiana
