Women’s team and Verania Willis receive awards in Costa Rica
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, January 24, 2013 – The
Women’s National Volleyball Team of Costa Rica and volleyball
player Verania Willis were among the recipients of the Colibri
Award in the annual gala of the Costa Rican Olympic Committee.
The ceremony, held at Kaolte Board Room of the
Children’s Museum in San Jose, was chaired by the President of
Costa Rica, H.E. Laura Chichilla Miranda accompanied by Henry
Nuñez, president of the National Olympic Committee and Fernando
Naranjo, general manager of the National Bank of Costa Rica.
The women’s squad was recognized as the best
team-sport, while the veteran Willis was awarded as the
individual best team-sport athlete of the year.
Nery Brenes, a 400m specialist who won the gold
medal at the Indoor World Championship held in Turkey last year,
received the awards as best in athletics and athlete of the
year. |
