Jordan Larson: Player of the Week

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, September 28, 2020 - Jordan Larson joined the United States national team in 2009 after completing her communications studies at the University of Nebraska. Her strong leadership skills have been key to USA’s run in the last decade.

She helped USA claim its first ever FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship title in 2014 in Italy and was one of the main protagonists of the team in the last two Olympic cycles, capping each cycle with a silver at London 2012 and bronze at Rio 2016.

She succeeded Christa Harmotto Dietzen as captain and led her team to a bronze medal at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup and silver at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball World Cup, and back-to-back FIVB Volleyball Nations League title victories.

The born-and-bred Nebraskan enjoyed several different sports growing up. She played football, basketball and softball before starting volleyball at age 12.

She has played various roles in volleyball, first as a setter, then a middle blocker, and then transitioned to the position of outside hitter. Playing these various roles developed her understanding of the importance of each role in the team, making her a well-rounded player and excellent captain.

She has played in Russia for Dinamo Kazan, in Turkey for Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul and in China for Shanghai VC. Her successful club career saw her become the first and only player to achieve a three-peat at the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championships, including her first title with Dinamo in 2014 and the next two titles with Eczacibasi in 2015 and 2016.

Larson was the third best scorer, second best attacker and the best receiver of the team at the Tokyo Volleyball Qualification tournament in Shreveport-Bossier City in 2019, when USA secured their spot at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
