USA clinch second victory in Pool B at NORCECA U-19

 

TIJUANA, Mexico, July 3, 2012 – The United States clinched its second victory in Pool A of the NORCECA Boys’ U-19 Continental Championship by defeating US Virgin Islands 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-10).

 

David Parker scored 12 points for USA, while Aseah Thomas finished with 7 for the US Virgin Islands team.

 

“I want to congratulate the US Virgin Islands for a great match, and it was a great team effort from us,” American captain Christian Blough said.

 

For Nayib Gonzalez, the US Virgin Islands captain, “basically it was the same as the first match, we had our best plays in the first set, but we lost it, and then also the happened in the second and third.”

 

However USA Coach Daniel Friend remarked the qualities of their opponents, describing them as a “very competitive and very athletic team, with a lot of potential.”

 

He also agreed with Blough about the team effort. “We made some adjustments and put great serving pressure,” Friend said, who is now is preparing to face Mexico on Wednesday night.

 

On the other side, US Virgin Islands coach, Mark Daniel commented about facing USA at this stage.

 

“It was a good opportunity for us,” he said. “This afternoon we didn`t gave up like in the first match. We don´t have a very deep team, but I think at least we played well one set”.
