Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 11, 2012 - Canada earned their place in the quarter-final round after defeating Trinidad Tobago in straight sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-23). The Trinidadians are disqualified from the VII Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup.

The best scorer for Canada was Christopher Hoag with 10 points, 9 of them via spikes auction, while the best of Trinidad and Tobago was captain Nolan Tash with 11, 10 of by attacks.

The Canadian team finished the first round in third place in Group A with a 1-2 record, while Trinidad and Tobago could not achieve a single victory in their three games, winning just one set in the match against Argentina in the second date of the preliminary round.

Nolan Tash, captain of Trinidad and Tobago: "We played our best game. Despite not winning a set, we improved our skills and look forward to learning from the teams we play. Canada was above us and although the last two sets were close, their superiority prevailed. Our receiving and serving errors at key moments caused our loss.”

Keith Maxwell, captain of Canada: "We have achieved all the goals we set for ourselves, specifically the use of all our players to gain experience as a young team. We were executing the plays and although the first set was easy, the others were well fought. "

Gideon Dickson, coach of Trinidad & Tobago: "Canada taught us to play more volleyball, they were way above the net. Their game helped us to learn. We were attacking with everything, but we faced a good game from the other side.. Overall it was our best game because we could implement more strategies despite the defeat."

Lawrence McKay, coach of Canada: "I congratulate the team of Trinidad and Tobago for their game. We were forced to work energetically after the first set and showed improvement game after game. They have good team and can be better since they showed that everyone can play in different positions with the same intensity. Our group was making good shots and our service went through good rallies that got the victory. It was difficult at the end of the third set but we took full advantage of some mistakes."
