Fresco and Pinedo carry Argentina over Costa Rica

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 16 2012 - Lucia Fresco and Georgina Pinedo recorded a match high of 10 points apiece for Argentina in the 3-0 win over Costa Rica (25-14, 25-22, 25-8) that lasted 1 hour and 8 minutes at the UACJ Gym.

Tatiana Rizzo converted four services for Argentina, while Angela Willis finished with 9 points y Verania Willis con 8 for Costa Rica, whose best set was in the second.

“We were very inconsistent in this match. We were getting closer (in the second) and tried to rebound, but we lost concentration and fell down in a hole and we could not get out of it after Argentina found our weak points,” said Verania Willis.

“We have improved a lot lately. We did what we expected and kept concentration and set ourselves in the court. I think that we had a good match against Brazil even though we lost in three but this last one has been our best performance,” Argentina’s captain Emilce Sosa mentioned.

“The third set was a huge difference and we have been victims of our irregular game since the last Olympic qualifying tournament, but we can rescue the victories over Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago at the Pan Am Cup,” said Costa Rica’s coach Xavier Perales.

“I am satisfied with the victory but not with the way we played tonight. In the second set Costa Rica got so close and I thought we almost lose it. I have seen a team that has shown a great evolution in Costa Rica,” Argentina’s coach Horacio Bastit indicated.
