Costa Rica duos undefeated in Central American BVB

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 20 2012.- Costa Rica´s duos dominated the first day of pool play matches at the 12^th Central American Beach Volleyball Championship at San Salvador, El Salvador.

Defending champion Esteban Escobar with partner Jose Suarez of CRC-2 are undefeated with three victories in Pool D. First they defeated Andy Leonardo/Erick Garrido of GUA-1 by 2-0 (21-18, 21-19); then they had to work harder to prevail over Domingo Avila/Otto Penso of PAN in three sets 2-1 (15-21, 21-14, 15-13) and to Jeovanny Medrano/Rafael Vargas of ESA-2 by 2-0 (21-14, 21-17).

Escobar said “we finished in third place with Jose in Costa Rica’s local championship and I feel confident with the job we did today; we respect all our opponents and I’m glad to be here.”

In their only match of the day, siblings Gilberto and Alexander Villegas of CRC-1 won over Carlos Leiva/David Vargas of ESA-1 by 2-1 (21-19, 15-21, 15-13).

On Saturday, Pool Play will be completed and quarterfinals will be held at the end of the day.
