Costa Rica qualified in 11th position

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, July 5, 2006.- Costa Rica defeated Barbados in straight sets in the match for the 11th position at the Women’s Pan American Cup. The Costa Ricans had a slow start but once the match progressed they were consistent with their attacks and beat the Caribbeans by score of 25-19, 25-16, 25-15. “The girls were a little nervous at the beginning, especially the setter,” said Braulio Godinez, the coach of Costa Rica. “We had the responsibility of winning this match and we complied. “It was not a great match but it means a lot to us because it allows a change in our mentality,” he added. Verania Willis and Karen Cope led Costa Rica with 14 and 12 points respectively and Shari Matthews had 11 points for Barbados.
